Dr Ashish Srinivasan is a Consultant Gastroenterologist who combines public appointments at Austin Health and Eastern Health with private practice in Melbourne’s north-east. Dr Srinivasan has a particular interest in bowel disorders and colonoscopy. He is a skilled endoscopist (gastroscopy, colonoscopy, PillCam) with access to regular private and public endoscopy lists. Dr Srinivasan welcomes referrals from all aspects of gastroenterology, including bowel cancer screening & polyp surveillance, irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), iron deficiency anaemia, gastro-oesophageal reflux and liver disorders. He is happy to be contacted directly by GPs to provide advice, discuss patients and/or accommodate urgent referrals.
Dr Srinivasan graduated medical school with academic honours prior to completing his internship and junior medical training at the Royal Melbourne Hospital. Following completion of advanced gastroenterology training across several prominent Melbourne hospitals, Dr Srinivasan was awarded a prestigious clinical and research fellowship in the United Kingdom at Oxford University Hospitals, where he furthered his training in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and colonoscopy. He also trained in intestinal ultrasound (IUS) in Germany at University Hospital Erlangen, prior to establishing the IUS service at Austin Health for which he is the Clinical Lead.
Dr Srinivasan maintains a keen interest in the latest medical therapies and has been invited to present his research at local and international conferences. His PhD, undertaken through Monash University, focused on optimising the use of advanced biologic therapies to improve patient outcomes in Crohn’s disease and ulcerative colitis. Dr Srinivasan was awarded several competitive scholarships and awards for his research endeavors, including a Monash Graduate Excellence Scholarship and a Monash University Department of Medicine Postgraduate Excellence Award, presented to the top two PhD candidates based on academic merit and research potential.
Dr Srinivasan also remains active in clinical teaching and research through his appointment as a Senior Lecturer at the University of Melbourne.
